If you are living with constant, chronic, or even intermittent pain, it can severely limit your quality of life. Rather than focusing on living and enjoying life, pain becomes the focus, all-encompassing and overwhelming. Pain medications, herbal supplements, over the counter remedies, ice, heat and soaking – all may offer some temporary relief, but when underlying vein issues are at cause a more permanent solution is frequently needed.
Often times leg pain symptoms can remain undiagnosed for years, even being mistaken for other issues. If your legs feel swollen and achy, unusually heavy, fatigued, or are itchy or discolored with these things becoming more noticeable by the end of the day and they seem to improve when your legs are elevated for a time or after a full night’s sleep you may very well have underlying vein issues.
Vein issues can range from a mildly embarrassing visual nuisance to downright painful and even debilitating. It is important to note that venous conditions do not heal on their own and over time can become progressively worse without treatment. It is recommended to seek medical advice as soon as possible in order to obtain the best outcome for your health.
With advances in modern medicine there is no reason to live with these conditions any longer. You have options.
Let’s take a moment to briefly go over each one.
Compression Stockings: The first line of treatment in venous therapy is to try compression stockings. Compression stockings support the structure of the leg and the veins allowing blood to flow properly and more easily by reducing the amount of blood and pressure. This offers much needed relief for many, however, for more severe cases compression therapy alone may not fully do the trick.
Injection Sclerotherapy: Sclerotherapy is one of the longest running, most trusted and most often utilized forms of venous therapy. It has proven effective on both spider veins and small varicose veins. This form of FDA approved treatment consists of chemical medication being injected though very tiny needles into the vein. This option works by causing a very gentle injury to the lining of the vein itself which then results in swelling and eventually occlusion of the vein. The closed off veins will then reabsorb into the body over time.
Laser Sclerotherapy: Laser Sclerotherapy is used in the treatment of small superficial spider veins. The veins must be traced by hand with the laser. It often requires multiple sessions due to time constraints, but has proven highly effective.
Foam Sclerotherapy: Foam Sclerotherapy works much in the same way as injection Sclerotherapy with the slight twist that it is done, instead of utilizing a chemical medication, with the combination of liquid sclerosant and a gas (air or CO2) through a stopcock creating microbubbles which resemble foam. Foam Sclerotherapy is used in treatment of larger veins as it offers a more expanded coverage.
Microphlebectomy: Microphlebectomy is the physical removal of damaged veins through very small incisions. It is performed with a local anesthetic with only a limited amount of oral sedation as an outpatient procedure and generally takes about a half an hour.
Endovenous Ablation: Also referred to as Endovenous Closure has become the industry standard for the treatment of superficial symptomatic venous insufficiency for the past decade. It has been time tested and proven to be a safe and efficient option.
Endovenous Closure can be done by using either laser energy delivered through a thin catheter to seal the veins or radiofrequency energy. It is performed under local anesthesia with the assistance of ultrasound. Endovenous closure is minimally invasive and can be the solution to a whole array of issues including: leg cramps, skin discoloration, night time urination, bleeding or ulcerations, aching, swelling, and varicose veins. By sealing the treated veins with heat, rather than stripping the veins from the body with endovenous closure there are no incisions, minimal to no pain, very little scarring (if any) and almost nonexistent downtime. Most patients heal very quickly and begin to notice rapid improvement in their conditions following the sealing of the veins.
VeinGogh™: The VeinGogh™ Omic Thermolysis System is our own proprietary treatment which provides patients with a fast, effective way to heal facial and nasal spider veins with less discomfort when compared to more traditional forms of therapy. VeinGogh™ treatment touts the sought after benefit of immediate and consistent visual results. A topical anesthetic is applied to the affected areas during the procedure.
VeinGogh™ microburst technology works by delivering a tiny, regulated, high frequency current to the damaged vessels via a hair thin probe. It heats the vein, coagulating the blood and collapsing the vessel wall. The veins are then able to be absorbed back into the body. The outer layer of skin is not effected and there is no downtime.
This amazing therapy can be useful in treating other vascular lesions outside of the usual vein issues. VeinGogh™ can be effective on other vascular lesions such as cherry hemangiomas, strawberry hemangiomas and even nonvascular lesions like skin tags.
Obagi Medical: Obagi Medical is a physician directed, scientifically formulated, prescription strength skin care system designed by plastic surgeon, Dr. Obagi. His product line works on a cellular level speeding the creation of new cells helping to increase production of elastin resulting in tighter firmer more evenly pigmented skin.
